Day 210 (Transfer5)
Ijuí is quite a change. The city has 8 missionaries (4 elders 4 sisters), and the majority are Americans. The city has three wards, and the chapel here has a more central location than in Itaqui. Everything in our area is far away from the apartment. The entire city is also a series of steep hills.
Tons of people with German or Dutch descent, we've found plenty that still speak German fluently here. On that note, the mission office actually offers German materials to the missionaries, alongside Portuguese, Spanish, and English.
But I'll just focus on one Goliath for now.
The elders apartment is 3/4 American! One of these Americans, Elder Reber, just got to the mission this week, and is being trained by another American, Elder Williams. So far seems to be going well.
I've been forgetting to write this, but lots of people in Brasil think I'm Japanese at first meeting, which is interesting. One day, I'll just have to go along with it, Elder Lira showed me what a Japanese accent in Portuguese sounds like...
One night, we were walking home passed this church with the front doors open. We saw a massive crowd gathered around someone sprawled out on the floor.. Lots of shouting and microphones. Still not sure what that was.
We´re keeping busy. Very, very busy, like it should be!
Lots more (and a bunch of photos) next week
Until then,
Elder Hopkinson
